| SBD's NewMP3Technology AV700 Battery Review Looking for a spare battery for you AV700? You can buy one directly from Archos or you can look for 3rd party alternatives such as NewMP3Technology's AV700 Battery. I performed battery tests on both the original AV700 battery that came with my unit and the NewMP3Technology battery. The original Archos battery has been used lightly on and off for a few months. The NMT battery was brand new. For testing I set a video clip on repeat and let the unit play from a full charge until the unit turned itself off. Test setup:
Without further adu, here are the results:
As you can see the NMT battery performed quite well. It performed above to well-above the Archos' advertised battery life for the AV700 (4 hours of video) and significantly above the slightly used Archos-official battery. Below are some pictures comparing the official Archos battery with the NMT battery. The official battery is on the left and NMT's is on the right. You can see that the internal label is slightly different but still well labeled. On the outside the only visible difference is the name NewMP3Technology.com is embossed in on the metal back. It looks quite nice. They really did an excellent job of reproducing the battery. It looks just as classy as the original.
You can see in the last picture, below, that it fits
snugly and looks great. Conclusion: The NewMP3Technology battery performs superbly, exceeding my Archos-official battery handily. Since my Archos-official batter had already been used a bit, it isn't an entirely fair comparison. It is possible that a brand-new Archos-official battery would perform similarly. As of this writing both batteries are priced the same in the US, so unfortunately there is no price break for buying the NMT battery. Regardless, you certainly won't be disappointed by its performance. |
